Harpagophytum procumbens, commonly known as devil’s claw, is a plant native to the savannahs of southern Africa, belonging to the Pedaliaceae family. In addition to its nutraceutical uses, devil’s claw is prized for its unique hook-shaped fruit, which has been used in crafts and decoration. An interesting anecdote: its name, “devil’s claw”, comes from the appearance of its claw-shaped fruit, which is designed to cling to the fur of passing animals, helping to disperse the seeds.
