Drosera

Drosera rotundifolia

Plants

Drosera is native to the bogs and moors of Europe, Asia and North America. It belongs to the Droserae family and fascinates by its carnivorous nature, as it traps insects on sticky, glandular leaves to absorb their nutrients. As well as its attractive nutraceutical potential, it is admired in ornamental horticulture for its unique insect-trapping mechanism and striking appearance. An interesting anecdote: the glittering droplets on the leaves of the drosera, used to trap prey, are the origin of its other common name, round-leaved sundew.
