Hops, scientifically known Humulus lupulus, perennial plants native to Europe, North America and Asia. Belonging to the Cannabaceae family, these plants are widely cultivated for their use in brewing beer, where they contribute to bitterness, flavour and aroma. Hops grow in temperate regions and are known for their characteristic conical flowers. Beyond brewing, hops have many nutraceutical properties. A fun fact about hops is that they are genetically close to cannabis, although they do not share the psychoactive characteristics.
